Security guard, others escape death as truck crash into Lagos building
A security guard, drivers and others nearly escaped death, last week, after a truck rammed into Simba Nigeria at Indomie Bus Stop, Eric Moore, Surulere, Lagos.
It was learnt that the accident scene has become a danger spot and has recorded three similar incidents in the last six months.
According to a resident, a tricycle rider was crushed by a truck a few months ago at the spot. In the latest incident, the truck carrying iron rods rammed into the building, and crushed two cars and a transformer at the next compound.
A security guard, who narrowly escaped being crushed by the truck alongside drivers and other staff, said he could not explain how he escaped the accident. He said: “I opened the gate for a military woman, who came to patronize us, and immediately she left, I was closing the gate when the truck rammed into the fence and destroyed two cars and a transformer at the next compound.
“The driver told us that he was avoiding a collision with a truck coming from the Costain area. I am grateful that the woman had already left before the incident because she could not have escaped it; her vehicle was parked close to the gate. I can’t explain how I escaped. It is a testimony.
“This kind of incident has become a regular occurrence at the junction. A Keke rider was crushed recently.” An eye witness, said: “After the repair of the link road from Eric Moore road to Doyin Orile, this route becomes a preferred alternative linking Doyin and Orile, and it has become a death trap for residents in the area.”
He added: “Being an industrial area, there are lots of articulated vehicles within that axis. The drivers of these trucks and buses drive as fast as they can, without minding the road diversion at the front.
“There have been frequent collisions of vehicles, the most recent was that of a tricycle rider who rammed into an oncoming truck, leading to his instant death.
“This is the latest one that has destroyed vehicles and company property. Both cases were reported at the Bode Thomas Police Station.”
